1. Library of Catalonia (Biblioteca de Catalunya)

The mission of the Library of Catalonia is to gather, conserve and disseminate the bibliographical output of Catalonia and that production related with the Catalan linguistic field. The Biblioteca de Catalunya is located in one of the most important examples of civic Gothic architecture in Catalonia, the Hospital de la Santa Creu in Barcelona. Built between the XVth and XVIIth centuries, it was the largest hospital in Catalonia for many centuries and was the result of the fusion of several hospitals that existed in medieval Barcelona.

2. Rare Book and Manuscript University of Barcelona CRAI Library

Library located at the historical building of the University. The importance of the Rare Book and Manuscript CRAI Library derives from the size and quality of the collection it houses. Following the passing of ecclesiastical confiscation laws in 1835-1836, Barcelona’s library collections from convents, which possessed numerous important manuscripts, incunabula and prints dating from 1501 to 1820, were brought together at the University to create a major public library.

Today, these items are the core pieces in the Rare Book and Manuscript collection, which also contains a set of engravings and parchments and donations, such as the Grewe collection on food and gastronomy.
